Experience and expertise,  combined with selective inventory and low overhead enables North of the Border to compete with the large, name brand bike shops in San Diego.

The shop has been built around Michael Crowell, one of the most respected mechanics in the county. Michael has wrenched on bikes which have placed on the podium at races such as the Primal-Quest, 24-hour races and regional road races.  Simply put, peopledrive far and out of their way to North of the Border to have Michael work on their bikes.

Our inventory is selective.  Our product selection is based on what has been proven to work and last. We carry both state-of-the-art cross-country bikes as well as all-mountain, full suspension bikes. We also have a selection of trustworthy and reliable entry level bikes.

Three of our bike lines are all hand-made in the USA (Ellsworth, Intense & Turner). We also carry Vassago and Marin. All of these bike lines have roots in California. Ellsworth, Intense and Turner are headquartered in Southern California. Vassago was originally from Orange County and of course Marin, a grandfather of mountain-biking, is headquartered in Marin County.
